The Nordic Academy Leader Course provides training for volunteers to lead community groups for safe, beneficial and enjoyable Nordic walks. It is designed for people without a background in exercise physiology or fitness but have an interest in promoting and motivating people to Nordic walk.

It is a 1 day course containing practical and theoretical components - both of which need to be successfully completed in order to gain certification.

Pre-requisites for Participation

Senior First Aid Certificate
Basic physical fitness ability (to walk at a moderate pace and non-stop for at least 1 hour).

8.30am - 5.30pm

          Development and status of Nordic Walking
          Health and fitness benefits explained
          Learning the basic technique and how to guide others
          Videotape analysis and review of techniques
          Equipment - poles, shoes, accessories
          Stretching exercises for NW
          Promoting of NW to your potential groups
          Legal and saftey issues in leading NW
          Basic fitness principles
